Adam currently runs workshops for secondary schools in Yorkshire and beyond. Workshops can be tailored for any age group (Year 7 – Sixth Form) and help students to build confidence in their creative writing. Links to curriculum texts and topics can be integrated into the workshops.
He is also one of the writers with First Story.
Areas of focus include:
– Writing from a stimulus
– Writing to describe
– Using metaphor and simile
– Drafting and editing
– Creating characters
– Banishing the fear of the blank page!
At each session, Adam introduces a series of fun and engaging exercises for the pupils to work on. Pupils are encouraged to share their work with one another in the session, which further enhances their confidence in their writing. Whether to introduce pupils to the idea of writing creatively or to help creative writers to hone their craft, Adam’s workshops are both inclusive and productive.
Ghost Story Writing Workshops: Adam also runs a ghost story writing workshop (on the back of his work as part of The Book of Darkness & Light) which can be tailored for adults or young people.

“I would 100% recommend it to other students. The best thing is that you have fun whilst actually learning. It was a dream come true.”
– Year 9 student, Trinity Academy, Halifax
“The workshop was invaluable as it enabled students to express their creativity in ways they had never previously imagined! Adam used a wealth of resources and activities to ensure that students were fully engaged at all times and all students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
– Caroline Tighe, The Mirfield Free Grammar & Sixth Form
“Adam found a way to engage every young person in our group to give them a fascination with words and their combined meanings. He made the path for writing new work clear and many were inspired to carry on their writing at home to continue crafting the ideas that had been unlocked.”
– Freya Wynn-Jones, Opera North
“Adam’s workshop was both motivating and inspiring for students of various abilities. As well as capturing their imaginations, his exercises were a great confidence builder for students whose natural tendency is to suppose they’re not very good at being creative. Adam nurtured the classes to produce excellent pieces of writing.”
– Laura Price, Thornhill Community Academy, Dewsbury
“Adam’s workshops on creative writing have inspired both staff and students in our drama department. His sessions are inspiring and engaging for all. In these sessions Adam somehow seems to make our young people believe that they have the ability to write wonderful things. The work they produced was absolutely stunning. Adam’s workshops have had a really positive impact on the quality of text, particularly in our devised work which has helped our students to make some really powerful performances.”
– Hannah Dolan, Head of Drama, Ralph Thoresby High School
“A real boost to students’ confidence. Everyone is fully engaged and the myth that is writer’s block is well and truly dispelled! A truly memorable day for both students and staff alike. Gives everyone a chance to unleash their inner writer.”
– Lin Devine, English teacher, Trinity Academy.
